Product Description |
| The Lift-Off bagless vacuum from Bissell delivers two-in-one cleaning capability and structural smarts for convenient, multi-purpose cleaning. Designed for full-scale use as an upright, the Lift-Off takes its name from the detachable canister that releases from its center for easier maneuvering on stairs and tight corners. A powerful 12 amps in either configuration, the Lift-Off is suitable for low and high carpets as well as bare floors, draperies, and upholstery. The floor nozzle is markedly wide--a full 14-1/2 inches--and delivers dual-edge cleaning, optional brush roll agitation, and seven different heights for floor type variation. The button controlling the brush roll is separate from the power switch, and the nozzle has a view window that lets you track it for clogs or stoppage. Dirt collection on the Lift-Off is bagless, and the removable, rinse-able container locks into place in use. In addition to the cup's built-in filter, the vacuum includes a HEPA Media Filter to keep 99 percent of dust mites, pollen, and ragweed inside the machine. A pre-motor filter keeps particulates out of the engine. Above-floor cleaning is simplified by the Lift Off's smart attachments, in particular a super stretchy hose that offers nine feet of reach without bulking up the chassis. Other cleaning tools stored on board include a telescoping extension wand, a crevice tool, a stair tool, a dusting brush, and an upholstery tool. Handy extras range from the wide-beam headlight to the extra-gentle furniture bumper to the textured handle grip. The Lift Off comes in a snappy dark red that adds a little spice to cleaning day. Bissell includes a one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard |

| I only had this vaccuum for not quite 2 years. After about a year it lost some of it's suction and just didn't pick up like it used to. I checked all the filters and everything was clean etc. Well then about a month ago it started to over heat while I was in the middle of using it and would just shut down. I live in a small apartment and don't have that much to vaccuum btw so it's not like I was vaccuming for very long when this would happen. Finally the other day it just wouldn't even turn on anymore. After reading the other reviews it sounds like I should be glad it over heated and shut down instead of catching fire though. What a piece of junk! I just bought a Dyson and love it, we'll see if it holds up to the price. |
It was great until it caught on fire.

We've had this vacuum cleaner for about 4 years. It's worked pretty good. The dust bin was easy to remove and clean, as were all the filters.
I was a little annoyed the belts were more difficult to find than most other vacuums out there. I was finally able to find them at Sears.
What I really did not like about this product was when it caught on fire, last night.
After the smoke cleared, and it was cool enough to touch, I took the cannister off. There is an electrical plug between the cannister and the carpet beater. This was melted and blackened. I'm not sure if it was a design flaw or a bad part. I'm sure the problem wasn't because of over-use of the plug. We only removed the cannsister one time, when we first got it, just to see how it worked.
I'm e-mailing Bissell to see if there's anything they'll do.

*I have only owned this vacuum for a couple days but this is what I found:
I have 17 cats (yes, 17, that is not a typo) and one dog. This vacuum is excellent at cleaning. There is a place for every onboard attachment on the main frame. I would rate the ability to get around the edges a C+ and have yet to own a vacuum that is better than a C+ on edges. I love that the canister detaches but remember there is no onboard device attachments for just the canister.
The reason I am returning this is because of the combination of heaviness plus poorly designed handle. The handle is very smooth making it difficult to hang on to the vacuum because the vacuum is so heavy. Had the handle been designed with a loop or something other than sleek and straight, I would be keeping this. I am not a weakling either, it's just a lot of work to hang onto this thing!
I can't say anything about the effectiveness of the rolling attachment because I haven't used it yet but I do have one comment about one of the attachments:
There is a metal looped rake with teeth that comes with a "Caution: This is for use ON your pets, not on your carpet or upholstery". At first I thought surely this must be a mistake! When I read further it instructs you to attach this to the vacuum and then comb your pets with it. Are you kidding me?? Who in their right mind would use a metal loop with teeth to brush their pet? And how many people are able to get near their pets with a vacuum? I laughed out loud when I read this and then became worried that some people might actually try this.
Also, the chamber that holds the dirt and hair is separated into an removable section and non-removable section. When you remove it for cleaning, it is not a closed system and the contents will spill out if overfilled or if you just accidently drop it. Not very practical.
It's going back tomorrow! |

The vacuum worked great for a few years but now the connection between the liftoff and the base is shorting out and smoking. The plastic around the prongs is melting, burning, and in very bad shape. Mine is going in the garbage before it starts a fire.
