Bad brush roll!

I've had this vacuum for a few years and I'm tired of spending money to replace its parts. The vacuum itself works well, but the brush roll has to be replaced every 6 months to a year. We went to a vacuum store and spoke with a man about it and he said it's typical of this model. The first two brush rolls we replaced just stopped spinning and wouldn't turn at all, even by hand. The third started making a loud vibration and eventually melted the side of the brush roll completely. Replacing it is at least $20 each time. They also recommend replacing the belt when you replace the brush roll, since it stretches the belt a bit when you take the brush roll on and off.
Also the turbo brush didn't work for me. It's supposed to spin automatically when you use it with the hose, but the brush roll on it would only spin intermittently. |
Forget about it.

Bought it on sale at Kroger's/Fred Meyers for US$79.95. I gave it two stars instead of one because the first time I used it it worked wonderfully, much better than our old Hoover upright that was ready for retirement and with rigorous cleaning and maintenance it might continue to do so... BUT this model is not without it's faults either! For starters you MUST remember to dump the canister FREQUENTLY, especially if you have pets. The top part, above the canister, will quickly become plugged with dust bunnies, carpet fabric and pet hair and must be scraped clean with a bent coat hanger... This will plug up even much more quickly if you let the canister get anywhere near it's "FULL" mark... so DON'T.
Second, forget about this unit for hard surfaces. Even on it's lowest brush setting "Bare Floors", more often than not the brushes will simply hurl tiny hard debris out from underneath the unit, towards your feet, instead of sucking it up like a vacuum SHOULD and you end up going back and forth, over and over, in a huge waste of time. I just use the wand attachment or better yet an old fashioned broom and dustpan.
Last but not least the replacement HEPA filters for this unit are in the $5 to $7 ballpark, EACH! And whatever you do do NOT use this model with any of those powdered carpet cleaner/deodorizers!!! Not only will your HEPA filter be ready for the garbage can (and very quickly too) but the internals of this model will harbor the powder for ages, leaving nice little sprinkles every time you remove the canister or even bump it wrong. If you live in a particularly dust prone area plan on replacing these often... using a vacuum with a disposable bag would be cheaper. Yes, you can remove the filter and blow it out with a compressor but the filter's life span between cleanings is very short... plan on cleaning the filter each time you use the vacuum if you don't replace it. This model will also overheat if the HEPA filter is not clean enough to exhaust it's air adequately which can cause it to drop into protection mode (shut it off, let it cool while you clean/replace the filter, should start running again in a few minutes) or possibly worse.
It does have a good selection of useful tools, a long power cord, and won't cost you several hundred dollars like some makes and models I see this one compared to on here... But you get what you pay for too, at least with this model. Call me disappointed. |
Child Safety Hazard

| This machine worked great for the first year. I had very positive feedback on the machine up until the release latch to keep it in the upright position failed while vacuuming one day and fell on my 1 year old daughter who was standing nearby watching me vacuum. I called Bissell and because it was just over 1 year old they refused to cover the part or replace the unit. This is a heavy vacuum and I wouldn't want any child to be injured. I will not be buying a Bissell again! |
Very Happy With This

We have five cats and had been using a shop vac for a couple of years. When we used this one, we were horrified at the amount of dust and hair we picked up. We had to empty the canister every few minutes.
Works equally well on our wood floors and the carpeting.
Couldn't be happier. |

| Best vacuum I have purchased! This vaccuum is top quality from the suction power to the overall design (love the curved hose wand). |
