| This was our first bagless vacuum after 7 years with a Panasonic and needless to say I didn't want to spend $500. Tested it out at Lowe's and purchased a couple days later after trying a Dyson. Yeah, it's a little heavy but it makes up for it with great suction, easy empty cannister and a long cord. The detachable brush is great for getting the stairs (I have half flights and this hose stretches all the way). The power brush and lights are great and after months of use, not one problem. (I have been wanted to write this for a while but wanted to make sure I had no issues). It's pretty dang versatile and would recommend to anyone trying to save a little over the Dyson or comparable vaccuums. The only person I wouldn't recommend this to may been anyone over 55 living by themselves in a 2 or more story house. Any guy on here saying is TOO heavy needs a girlfriend and a hobby. |

| I have owned this vac for a few years now and it has been flawless! Its easy to use and the wand adds to my kids comfort when sucking up spiders from the ceiling. Im cheap and I feel this was worth the cost for the quality, ease of use and performance. Best price from Amazon,,,no sales tax helped! |

The scene was fall semester, 2007. One of my roommates offered to bring a vacuum to campus that her parents would be throwing out. When I saw it, I knew I could fix it, because I'd worked in a shop that dealt with this particular brand (Hoover Empower). It's a decent machine, but MANY people don't realize that, just because a vacuum cleans, doesn't mean it will clean itself. After three days of working on this vacuum, removing animal hair, human hair, replacing the band (at no cost to myself, thank heavens), it worked as well as a poorly abused machine would. I could finally vacuum a carpet that she'd brought, which was in similar condition.
Within the next week, it disappeared for reasons upon which I choose not to embellish here (my roommates and I were not at all pleased). I am a self-proclaimed clutter-bug, but I am a clean freak, therefore my clutter must be clean (this means neat-freaks can be unsanitary) and I could not stand not having a vacuum. Dragging my two remaining roommates and fiance along, I went in search of a new vacuum. I was placing the cap at $110, perhaps another Hoover Empower, but one of my roommates (who has terrible allergies) pointed to Bissell's Healthy Home vacuum. After considering the cost of a good vacuum versus one that would break down in a year, my fiance and I decided to purchase this vacuum.
The carpet that I'd previously mentioned had been vacuumed thoroughly by the Hoover, but what this vacuum pulled out was enough to fill the canister. As many have said, dealing with the canister is no real joy, but that doesn't really phase me. I take it outside, empty the canister's contents into a plastic bag, and wipe off the outside of the canister when I come indoors. There have also been complaints about this appliances weight, but I must say that most people need to build some upper-body strength (try carrying a few things for yourself instead of asking your husband to take care of it for you; where do you think he gained his strength?).
One year later, for some inexplicable reason, the ON switch began to malfunction. We took it to a local shop that specializes in vacuum repairs, and they fixed it for me at the low cost of 2 dollars and 11 cents (I couldn't believe the cost, either). Three years after the initial purchase and much heavy use, the HEPA filter - which "should be replaced every 6 months or if suction declines" - has finally worn down. I'll be replacing that soon, and my husband and I will be good for another thousand miles. |
Love this Vacuum, but have had couple of problems..

| I bought this vacuum 2 years ago after reading many reviews. Everything I had read was correct. It works amazingly. The height adjustmants allow me to vacuum hardwood floors and a shag rug. The attachments are great. The one in the front does fall off quite often because you need to use your body sometimes to move this vaccum because it is heavy! Now I was very dissapointed this week when I was simply vacuuming my burber carpet and the whole handle and arm snapped off! The only conclusion I have is that the body of the vaccum is so heavy that the handle wasn't able to keep up with it. And feeling how light the handle and arm are I can see how it was able to snap. The good news is, I called Bissel direct since I couldn't find my sears receipt from when I had bought it. I explained where it broke and they simply said they were sending out a new arm and handle within 5 to 7 days with out any charge. So I am hoping I am able to fix after I get it in the mail. I don't know how I am going to get the broken part of the plastic out that was snapped off to fit in the new arm. I also wonder if they have had this happen before. |
Started out great, ended up poorly...

We have 2 Bissel Healthy Home vacuums; my husband purchased a 2nd during our separation, now we're back and own 2. Both performed extremely well in the first few months of ownership but we've experienced identical issues with both. First issue power switch not turning on. On occasion we found if the canister was not setting correctly on the base the vacuum wouldn't turn on. We've tried everything, taking the machine apart etc and the 2nd vacuum will not power on. The 2nd issue has been the brush not rotating. Sometimes if you bump the corner of the brush head, the brush will cease rotating. Why this is so remains a mystery and how it suddenly begins to rotate again, well, that's another mystery.
At the present time we have 1 vacuum that will not turn on and the other turns on the the brush is fickle about rotating.
Very frustrating. Think I may drag out the heavy Kirby vacuum, get it tuned and performing again. Sigh..thought I was finished with vacuum bags. |
