Bissel Powerforce Bagless Vacuum

this vacuum starts out fine and then shortly within a month or so, the dust starts to creep out of the crevices and openings; the filters, three have to be cleaned often and the vacuum is not sealed tight-- so, a disappointment--love seeing the vacuumed residue in the clear cup--needs to be improved. |
Great except for belts

| I've had my vacuum about a month and it's already broken 2 belts. Customer support is no help. They are just reading off a computer and have no idea how the vacuum works. The belt goes around a metal rod. It keeps breaking and they tell me it's the carpet setting. Other than that, it's a great vacuum. Especially the upolstery tool. If I could get the belt problem fixed, I would have no complaints. |

Affordable but brush does not last long

I don't know how Amazon can charge so much for this item. As I'm writing this review, their price is $224.99--Walmart's price for the exact same model is $65. I'm a huge Amazon fan and buy everything here and know their prices are usually about the same or better--but that's a HUGE mark-up.
I've owned two vacuums of this model within the past 3 years and both are now broken. While $65 is a relatively cheap price, I don't believe even a low-end vacuum should have to be replaced this frequently. When the first one broke, it kept burning through belts, then the rotating brush ceased up and would no-longer rotate freely. I ended up buying a 2nd one of the exact same model from Walmart hoping this wasn't a common problem. Well now, I was vacuuming tonight and the brush stopped rotating and started smoking from the belt that's supposed to turn the brush. I cleaned out any hair/string, but it still was not working. When I took the brush out I discovered that it was so stuck that I cannot even force it to turn by hand, so it is beyond repair unless I can buy a separate replacement brush, but I checked their website, and this is not listed among their replacement parts available.
The product did do the job adequately when it was working, but I believe it should definitely last more than a 1 to 2 years--we don't even vacuum very often.
EDITED 6/4/2010:
After sending Bissell an email, I did receive a helpful response from their support dept and a representative advised that the replacement part can be ordered from their website. However, their website does not function in the way it states that it does. Their website prompts you to enter your model number as a way to locate the parts that fit your vacuum, which did not return the replacement brush in the search results. However, if you search by "brush", you can find this part which lists the the model number among models it will fit. I entered the part number given on Bissell's website on Amazon and purchased from Amazon instead of from Bissell directly (I was not comfortable with Bissell's policies/terms of purchase agreement)--was about the same price with either Bissell or Amazon. Vacuum works fine again, but still think the brush should last longer--even for a "wearable part". BTW, my carpet is of only medium/average thickness and have to keep my brush level adjusted to the highest setting--even then the brush does seem to make too much contact with the carpet. My wife also has long hair and I have two cats to be fair, but it still seems like the brush design should be better. The brush has bearings in it I guess and should rotate freely, but the problem I had with the brush on both vacuums I've been through is that the brush just completely ceases up--couldn't even force it to rotate by hand. So, I bumped the rating from 2 stars to 3. |
There Are Better Vacuum Cleaners

| This vacuum cleaner is just okay. It clogs, doesn't suction very well and throws dust everywhere, unless you clean it out after EVERY use. We have to clean out the filters after each use, whether it's full or not and at least once a month we have to unscrew the pipes and clean them out with tweezers or whatever we can find because it gets clogged. I've had better vacuum cleaners and am saving up for a Dyson. |
